I hope we will be able to provide more information about our plans for Origin in the near future. Lastly, your frustration on this topic is duly noted. Since that is sadly not yet a reality, all I can add for now is that it definitely in the works.Ĭurrently that only leaves you with the option, as you mentioned, to buy the DLC in a retail store. I also have to agree with you in this case that a gifting option should have been added already. Hi currently do not have a time frame for when this option will be added to Origin. Or wait until the game some time in the future is buyable from somewhere else. Why make an expansion pack if there is no way of buying it?Īnyway, I guess the only way to solve this for me is to lie about my kids age and convert their account into an adult account.
So currently my kids are crying because they can't get their new virtual furniture and I just spent money on something that I can't use. To make matters worse this is a new pack (released last week) which apparently isn't sold elsewhere yet.

I simply thought I'd get the code that I could put into their game (like you get when you buy it in the store), but apparently I've now bought this expansion pack for my own newly created account where it of course makes no sense since I haven't got Sims 4 at all. Then I created another account just to buy it. First tried to buy it from their account (of course without success). I just bought a Sims 4 pack that my kids want.
What's the whole point with those child accounts if you can't buy stuff for them anyway? This issue is also, like the purchasing issue, several years old. This translates into lost sales for EA, frustrated parents with credit card in hand and no way to spend, and sad kids that end up feeling grownups are stupid for not solving such silly issues so they can just play! So I imagine everybody else is either cheating (for example creating accounts with incorrect information). Or, as in my case: skipping DLC from Sims 3 completely because there is just NO WAY to add the DLC to an underage Origin account. Which is obviously completely silly since the target group for Sims 3 players is hardly kids aged 18 or above. In essence this means that to use DLC or acces Sims 3 community features, a player MUST be over 18 years old. And hey, that separate system refuses accounts that are underage. Except using the Sims 3 community and the Sims 3 launcher with added DLC requires an ADDITIONAL log-in account from a dedicates Sims 3 home page. We purchased it in a store, and added it to her underage Origin account. As a parent it is really hard to provide access for children playing EA games.Įxample: My 11 year old daughter wants to play Sims 3. Please make sure the people who work on these improvements also include account log-on procedures. So here comes the question: WHEN will you - Origin and EA - fix this issue, so that parents can make legitimate purchases for a child account?Īdditional question: Do you believe the failure to address this issues for several years in a row makes Origin an attractive platform for parents? I will be taking my money to an alternate distribution platform now. Something that is silly and should be unnecessary when the item I wanted to purchase is an EA product (Spore). This is not my first attempt to buy digital downloads for my kids, but frankly I had expected EA and Origin to have fixed it by now. To make matters worse, this issue has existed for many years. We could probably pirate the game from the Internet in minutes (we never do) and yet, I sit here with my credit card ready and cannot chosse a legitimate way to purchase games for my kids through Origin. Yet, experiences such as this make it extremely hard to explain to them why being honest is the best option. I try - I really try - to teach my kids the value of being honest in regards to Immaterial Property and software. Today, I have yet again given up on Origin.

Our only option is to purchase physical copies and use the activation code from that - which is not only an archaic way of doing business, but also a vastly inconvenient one. Essentially it is completely impossible as a parent to purchase digital games for child accounts.
I am frankly baffled to find that even after years of having this issue, nobody at EA or Origin has fixed it. In addition, there is no generic option to purchase a gift for another Origin account. Underage accounts have no Store page to make purchases, and the parent account cannot make purchases on behalf of a child account. I tried over a year ago to purchase Sims 3 for my daughter, but it was impossible at the time. I have two child accounts in addition to my personal account. I just attempted to purchase a new game for my child.
